CBC, lipid profile and HbA1c: what these common tests check
These three tests appear in most check-ups. Here is what each one looks at. Your doctor will interpret your own results with you.
Complete blood count (CBC)
Counts your red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. It can point to anemia, infection, inflammation and other conditions. At The Med Club, a CBC with platelet count is ₱500.
Lipid profile
Measures total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, VLDL and triglycerides. These help estimate your risk of heart disease and stroke. Fasting is usually required.
HbA1c
Shows your average blood sugar over the past two to three months. It is used to screen for and monitor diabetes, and is included from our Classic package up.
What to do with your results
A single result outside the normal range doesn't always mean something is wrong. Always review your results with a doctor, who can look at the full picture and recommend next steps.
